JUBILANT celebrations swept the country in July to mark the 70th anniversary of our National Health Service. It was a testament to the true passion our country feels towards the institution and the millions of thankful lives its tireless professionals touch every year.

Bolton’s birthday present – wrapped with the ambition to ensure the survival of our NHS for another 70 years – was a historic partnership between Bolton Council and local NHS organisations to join up the disjointed system we have all experienced at one point or another.

Partners Collaborating as equal partners is essential as we face up to the challenges of a population that is living longer with more complex health needs.

The partnership includes the council, Bolton NHS Clinical Commission Group (CCG) – which commands a £380m budget and is responsible for commissioning and buying health services for residents – Royal Bolton NHS Trust, charities and community groups, alongside Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust.

By working together we will be able to avoid duplication, fill any gaps and make more effective use of skills, budgets, and resources. For further information about how the council and NHS will work together
