Work with Education Partners to plan for the Green Jobs of the future
As a part of our skills agenda, we will work with schools, colleges, the University of Bolton, and employers to ensure that the young people of Bolton are best equipped for the green jobs market of the future.
This links to the Economic Growth and Resilience Plan and the Skills Strategy. A skills strategy has been developed with key partners. This will aim to deliver the vision of a universal skills programme for all ages to enable anyone, at any stage to access advice, guidance, progression support and skills. This would ensure that everyone has access to basic communication and digital skills as well as the core skills required by employers, including the growing ‘green jobs’ market.
We will encourage the development of green micro businesses in schools and colleges, by utilising Green Enterprise Loans.
A commitment that will be pursued in the future
Working with schools, we want to introduce new community and voluntary opportunities within the green agenda for sustainable development, including the promotion of young people as our Recycling Ambassadors.
The Council Volunteer Coordinator visits schools, giving talks on recycling and on how schools can become Eco Schools with Recycling Ambassadors.
Building on good behaviours learned from a young age, we will seek to deliver community resilience projects such as summer schools, Green Flag Award schemes, repair shops and ‘libraries of things’.
To be progressed as part of our work on community resilience progresses.
