Create a Cabinet Member for the Climate Crisis.

A new powerful position will be created at the Council with a remit to steer our borough through the climate crisis. 

Position of Exec Member Climate Change and Environment created.

In order to ensure a concentrated focus in this area, and to strengthen community resilience across our borough, this new position will have an overarching remit over many Council decisions, with the option of veto over decisions that could adversely affect our carbon neutral agenda.

New portfolio role has ‘second tick’ to approve or not other decisions identified as having an environmental affect.

We will modernise Council systems for the Climate Crisis. The Council employee professional review process will be updated to include climate protection aims, and all councillors and staff will receive mandatory climate literacy training.     

Online training is currently available via GMCA, however this is not yet mandatory.
