Powers to tackle empty shops

Labour wants to see councils being given the powers to take over shop units that have been left empty for long periods by their owners and Labour will campaign for this. These units can then be used for a variety of purposes.

No new powers from Government, but empty shop units are part of the housing led regeneration for conversion into homes. New town centre population will lead to new specialist shop units opening.
