Post-school apprenticeships and skilled work for adults rely on rebuilding our local economy and jobs, e.g., manufacturing, and as such will be developed across our agenda by localising and developing a more circular economy.

We will work with schools, colleges, the University of Bolton, trade unions and employers to plan for the skills needed for the future.

This links to the Economic Growth and Resilience Plan and the Skills Strategy. A skills strategy has been developed with key partners.  This will aim to deliver the vision of a universal skills programme for all ages to enable anyone, at any stage to access advice, guidance, progression support and skills. This would ensure that everyone has access to basic communication and digital skills as well as the core skills required by employers.

Delivery of the Economic Alliance is progressing.

We want to create a digital hub for young people and for adults who wish to retrain.

Wellsprings Innovation Hub has now been established for new business and we will explore how this can be used to link with University and College students. GM digital skills strategy is providing funds for retraining.

We will seek to improve transport links between areas of highest unemployment and employment hubs.

Transport Network Committee established to work with GM Bee Network. Through these committees we can raise and resolve issues in relation to transport links.  E.g. new routes to employment hubs at Logistics North and Middlebrook.
