Health inequalities across our borough are a scandal that we cannot ignore. We will seek to invest in additional services, including health education, to reduce these inequalities.

The Councils Public Health role commissions a range of services to tackle health inequalities across Bolton eg. – 0-19s (including school nurses and health visitors) – Sexual Health Services – Substance misuse / drug & alcohol addiction services – Infection, Prevention and Control service – ACEs programmes – Tobacco services – Weight Management services -Health Checks via GPs – Ageing Well Support  We also invest in – – Community Engagement and the development of Health Champions – The promotion of Physical Wellbeing Active Lives provision ‘Let’s keep Bolton Moving’ -The Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Prevention Concordat and activities such as MH first aid training for  professionals and partners. – Health Protection and professional advice eg re vaccination programmes / winter planning and resilience. – The development and provision of robust data, intelligence and evidence to inform decision making across the  Health and Social Care system.

Mental health issue for men is often ignored. We will prioritise support for men’s groups and men’s activities.

We work with our key partners and colleagues in the public and VCSE sector to contribute to the development of targeted approaches as part of the MH Prevention Concordat work. We also share our knowledge and evidence to help shape responses to targeted groups. We promote support such as ‘Bolton Manbassadors’ and ‘Men in Sheds’ and we commissioned ‘Team Talk’ which involved suicide prevention messages and advice around self harm prevention/peer support and physical activity to improve mental health.

Social services, health and housing providers must work closer together to renew the offer for people with substance, mental health and offending issues who can be found begging in town centres and neighbourhoods.

Work ongoing with housing partners on housing offer for vulnerable people.  Substance misuse contract sits with Public Health.  Town Centre ‘Hope for Change’ campaign to redirect donations from individual beggars to local charities.

We will establish a Disabled People’s Panel that can make proposals and recommendations to the Council and its partners on all aspects that may affect the lives of disabled people.

To be progressed.
