Devolving power and empowering citizens

Labour will establish new Area Action Groups based upon communities within wards. Made up of elected representatives and local people, these groups will have a real say in the future of their area.

The first phase of Community Alliances, in line with our pledge,  have been established with the second roll out in 2025

Decisions on local spending of local budgets will be devolved to these groups. A true power sharing arrangement between the Council and communities.  

Unable to devolve budgets at this stage, but it is our intention to devolve further powers in a majority Labour Council. Some budgets are being voluntarily developed to Community Alliances from Members local budgets.

We will ensure that all targets and outcomes are measured fully and that full audits take place.

Not able to implement, due to no devolved budgets. However, the details of spending of members local budgets are fully accessible online.

A Labour Council will enhance the Citizens panels, to make it a true consultative body
