Following the publication of the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework, Bolton Council has not allocated any housing sites on the Green Belt anywhere in the Borough, despite pressure from the Government to do so. Instead, we have allocated land for new homes on ‘brownfield sites’ and urban areas, such as Bolton town centre.

We have not only protected the Green Belt, but have added previously unprotected sites, in the west of the Borough, to the Green Belt; the only council in the region to do this.

Cllr David Chadwick said “This plan means that the Green Belt around Westhoughton will be given greater protection, which will reassure residents, who are rightly worried about over-development.”
