Following the publication of the Greater Manchester Spacial Framework, Bolton Council has not allocated any housing sites on the Green Belt anywhere in the Borough, despite pressure from the Government to do so. Instead, we have allocated land for new homes on ‘brownfield sites’ and urban areas, such as Bolton town center.

We have not only protected the Green Belt, but have added previously unprotected sites to the Green Belt; the only council in the region to do this.

Commenting on the new plan, Cllr Shafaqat Shaikh said “this plan means that Hulton’s Green Belt will be protected from new housing developments. This will reassure residents who are worried about over-development and further pressure on our local infrastructure.”
