Labour-Led Council Expands SEND Provision: Building a More Inclusive Bolton
Bolton Labour is proud to announce the opening of a brand-new £800,000 school extension at Queensbridge Community Primary School, delivering on our promise to promote inclusivity and expand support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
This fantastic new facility, funded through the Department for Education’s Safety Valve grant programme, has transformed the school’s existing SEND provision. The space is now equipped to support 16 pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties or Severe Learning Difficulties, ensuring every child in Bolton has the opportunity to thrive.
Belonging in Bolton: Labour’s Vision for Inclusive Education
This project is part of the “Belonging in Bolton” inclusion strategy, a joint initiative between Bolton Council and headteachers to ensure every child feels welcome at their local school.
Unlike years of neglect under the Tories, where SEND provision was overlooked and underfunded, Bolton Labour is taking real action to support children and families. This isn’t just about bricks and mortar—it’s about making sure every child, no matter their needs, can access a quality education close to home.
Cllr Martin Donaghy, Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, highlighted the importance of the project during the ribbon-cutting ceremony last week:
“We believe that every child, regardless of their needs, should be welcome in their local mainstream school. This project shows what we can achieve when the council and schools work together to help young people thrive.
Every child in Bolton deserves the best possible start in life, and Labour will keep fighting to make sure no one is left behind.”
More SEND Support Across Bolton
The Queensbridge expansion is just the beginning. Bolton Labour is committed to rolling out SEND support to other mainstream schools across the borough, ensuring that every community benefits from high-quality, inclusive education.
Headteacher Louise Chapman praised the project’s impact:
“Each member of our Queensbridge family is valued, respected, and included—regardless of their background, ethnicity, or whether they have identified special needs or disabilities. We believe that every child has the right to a champion, someone who will believe in them and help them become the best version of themselves.”
