Labour Delivers a 9.8% Boost for Bolton – Real Investment in Our Communities

For far too long, Bolton has been forced to do more with less, as 14 years of Conservative cuts left local councils struggling to provide vital services. But change is here.

Under Labour’s new government, Bolton is receiving a 9.8% funding boost, helping us invest in local services, repair our roads, and tackle rough sleeping.

A Government That Backs Bolton

This additional investment will directly benefit communities across Bolton, with:

✔️ £14.8 million extra for pothole repairs across Greater Manchester – meaning around 200,000 more potholes could be fixed next year, including here in Bolton.
✔️ £133,000 in additional funding to tackle rough sleeping, ensuring vulnerable people get the help they need.
✔️ More money for street cleaning, parks, and environmental services to keep Bolton’s neighbourhoods clean, safe, and welcoming.

Cllr Nick Peel, Leader of Bolton Council and the Labour Group, said:

*”For far too long, Bolton has been forced to do more with less, as Conservative governments wilfully underfunded local councils. But today marks a turning point. We finally have a government that is on our side.

“This new funding means we can do more to improve local services, from street cleaning and environmental enforcement to parks and green spaces. On top of this, Greater Manchester has been given an extra £14.8 million to tackle potholes, which means around 200,000 extra potholes could be filled next year—including right here in Bolton.

“And with £133,000 in additional funding to tackle rough sleeping, we can take further steps to help some of the most vulnerable people in our town.

“Turning this country around after 14 years of Conservative failure won’t happen overnight, but with a Labour government investing in our communities instead of cutting them back, we’re finally seeing the change Bolton desperately needs.”*

Labour’s Plan for Stronger Local Government

Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner highlighted Labour’s commitment to rebuilding local government, saying:

*”Councils deliver vital services across the country – driving growth and local economies and providing a lifeline for those that need it most.

“Through our Plan for Change, we are determined to fix the foundations of local government; investing where it is needed, trusting local leaders, and working together to deliver growth, better health and social care services, and the affordable homes people need.”*

Minister of State for Local Government and English Devolution Jim McMahon OBE added:

*”We have been clear we will fix the foundations of local government. That means an end to short-term solutions, and instead, rebuilding the sector to put councils on a more stable and secure footing.

“Local leaders play a crucial role in delivering the day-to-day services communities across the country rely on, which is why we want to work with them towards a fairer funding model that tackles regional inequality and prioritises outcomes for local people.”*

Labour Delivering for Bolton

This new funding boost builds on the recent progress Bolton Labour has already made, including:

🌳 £1.25 million investment in parks and green spaces, improving play areas and outdoor facilities.
🧹 More funding for street cleaning and environmental enforcement to tackle fly-tipping and keep Bolton’s streets clean.
🏡 Expanded support for renters under the Renters Reform Bill, protecting tenants from unfair evictions.
🚆 Bringing local rail services into the Bee Network, delivering cheaper, more reliable, and joined-up transportacross Greater Manchester.

A Clear Choice for Bolton

After 14 years of Tory neglect, Labour is investing in our town and delivering real change. We believe in rebuilding our communities, strengthening local services, and making sure Bolton gets its fair share of funding and opportunity.

This is what Labour in action looks like.
