Breightmet and Tonge with the Haulgh Councillors teamed up last weekend to put up special British Legion endorsed poppies, along Bury Road, that runs through the wards. The funding for the poppies was made via the local Area Forums delegated funds, with the payments going direct to the British Legion.

Cllr John Byrne, for Breightmet (pictured above),said “The poppy signifies remembrance for all those who have died in conflicts, and we wanted to make a visual statement along Bury Road, which is one of the busiest roads in the borough, to remind people of the upcoming centenary of the end of the First World War, whilst also raising money for the great work that the British legion carries out all year round.

Councillor John Byrne for Breightmet, and Elaine Sherrington (The Mayor), Martin Donaghy and Nick Peel for Tonge with the Haulgh, spent a few hours last Saturday and Sunday, with step ladders and cable ties to create the great poppy lined image.
