Bolton’s Community Spirit Shines This Christmas and Beyond

As Christmas approaches, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the year past and the progress we’ve made together. For Bolton, 2024 has been a year of resilience, hard work, and community spirit, and I’m proud of all that we’ve accomplished.

One of the highlights of this year has been the success of Bolton’s Fund, which marked its fifth anniversary. Over £6.5 million has been distributed to over 1,200 community groups, making a real difference in the lives of local residents. From supporting foodbanks to providing mental health services, this fund has empowered local organisations to meet the needs of our community.

As the festive season begins, Bolton is buzzing with excitement. From the stunning Put Big Light On Festival to the Albert Halls Pantomime, the town is alive with events that celebrate our vibrant culture. These events not only bring joy to our residents but also support our local businesses during one of their busiest times of the year. I encourage everyone to attend and make the most of the festivities.

However, we are also mindful that Christmas can be a difficult time for some. This year, over 3,300 pensioners who were no longer eligible for winter fuel payments will receive £200 vouchers from the council. This support ensures that our older residents can stay warm during the colder months without worrying about the cost.

In addition, our 12 Days of Christmas initiative is working with local taxi services to ensure safe travel across Bolton, allowing everyone to enjoy the festive season responsibly. It’s a small but essential way we are looking after our residents during this busy period.

Looking ahead, the regeneration of Bolton continues with projects like the Market Food Hall and residential developments such as Moor Lane and Deansgate Gardens. These projects are transforming our town centre and creating vibrant neighbourhoods for our growing population.

As we reflect on 2024, I am incredibly proud of the strength and unity of our community. Despite the challenges we’ve faced, Bolton has shown that by coming together, we can achieve great things. I am confident that 2025 will bring even more opportunities for us to build a better, more prosperous town for all.

On behalf of myself and the Labour Group, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Together, we’ll continue to make Bolton a town we can all be proud of.
