This year, Bolton Labour has delivered transformative change, standing up for local residents, improving services, and driving forward a bold vision for our borough. Here are our top 10 wins for 2024:
1. Opening of Bolton Market’s New Food Hall
In June, Labour delivered a fantastic new Food Hall at Bolton Market. Packed with diverse cuisines and supporting local traders, it has turned the market into a vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike. This is another example of Labour investing in Bolton’s community and economy.
2. Transforming Bolton Town Centre
Labour-led investments have brought new life to Bolton’s town centre, with upgrades to public spaces, better retail and leisure options, and regeneration projects. These improvements are laying the foundation for a thriving, modern town centre that works for everyone.
3. Opening of The Wellsprings Innovation Hub
Labour’s commitment to business and innovation came to life with the opening of The Wellsprings. This new hub provides local businesses with the space and resources to grow, putting Bolton at the heart of Greater Manchester’s economic recovery.
4. Supporting the Most Vulnerable
Labour has taken action to tackle homelessness by securing additional properties to support individuals at risk. We’ve proven once again that Labour puts people first, ensuring everyone in Bolton has the chance to build a better future.
5. Boosting the Visitor Economy

Under Labour, Bolton residents can now recycle a wider range of plastics, thanks to expanded recycling services introduced in October. This move is part of Labour’s plan for a cleaner, greener Bolton and a commitment to tackling the climate crisis.
7. Award-Winning Elizabeth Park
Labour’s investment in green spaces paid off this year when Elizabeth Park received a prestigious design award. This recognition highlights Labour’s dedication to creating high-quality spaces where communities can come together and thrive.
8. Free Activities for Families
Labour understands the pressures families face during school holidays, which is why we introduced free activities for children at libraries, parks, and community centres. These initiatives have provided fun, educational opportunities while supporting parents across Bolton.
9. Safer Communities
Labour has prioritised safety this year, working closely with Greater Manchester Police and community groups to improve street lighting and support grassroots safety initiatives. We’re committed to ensuring Bolton is a safe place for everyone.
10. The Return of the ‘Put Big Light On’ Festival
In October, Labour brought back the much-loved ‘Put Big Light On’ festival, with stunning light art installations across the borough. This cultural celebration has united communities and boosted Bolton’s reputation as a vibrant, creative town.
