Labour’s pledges to you
Elections for 21 Bolton Council seats will be held on Thursday 6th May 2021.
These elections could change who runs the Council, so you deserve to know what Labour’s plans are if you elect us.
Our pledges below spell out our priorities for Bolton Borough and the towns within it.

Labour will urgently remodel Bolton and Farnworth town centre regeneration schemes, to make them fit for a post Covid world.
We want the Council to have more powers to tackle empty shops.
We are committed to our pledge for local funding and support for all of our townships.
We will keep the Bolton Pound in Bolton.
We will create a Bolton Apprenticeships and Skills Hub, planning for the jobs market of the future
Labour will sign up to the Care Workers Pledge.
We work in Partnership with local people to tackle poverty in our society.
We will build a new cooperative partnership with the Voluntary Sector.
We will protect and promote all existing Community Centres, UCANs and other facilities.
We will expand Advice and Support Services.
We will establish a Disabled People’s Panel.
We will strengthen the Armed Forces Covenant.
Labour will tackle the scourge of young people ‘going without.
Labour’s support for young people begins before birth.
All Children aged 5 to 11 will automatically be signed up for library membership.
We will invest in services for Children’s mental health and wellbeing
A new support network for children who are carers.
Labour will guarantee that the highways budget will be protected.
We will work with the police and local residents’ groups to launch Community Speedwatch Initiatives across the borough.
We will make a available a new capital funding pot for a huge increase in tree planting, and new wild flower meadows.
We will create new ‘Pocket Parks’.
We will sign up to the Selective Licensing Scheme for private landlords.
Building and Improving Homes.
We will restore Pride in our Streets.
Labour will create a lead Council Member for Climate Change.
We will Create Green Enterprise Schemes with interest free loans, for small innovative business ideas.
We will review Local Planning Policy so that all applications for large new housing developments must meet new ‘green criteria’.
We will explore the option of generating clean and cheap energy for our residents.
We will work with schools, colleges and the University to ensure that Bolton people are qualified for the green jobs of the future.
Labour will establish new Area Action Groups.
We will actively promote all council meetings and ensure recordings are available to the public within 24 hours.
We will open up Council meetings to key stakeholders.
We will seek to bring ‘employee representatives’ onto various Council boards.
We will build a new partnership between Bolton Wanderers, the supporters and the Council.
We will reinstitute the ‘Civic Medal’ for Bolton residents who make an outstanding contribution to our borough.
