Bolton’s Masterplan: Delivering Real Change with Labour Leadership
2024 has been a transformational year for Bolton, with the Labour-led council, in partnership with the new Labour government, delivering on promises to regenerate our borough and bring tangible benefits to residents. After 14 years of Tory cuts and underinvestment, Bolton Labour is turning the tide, breathing new life into the town centre and beyond.
Unlike the empty promises of Reform and the neglect of previous Conservative governments, Labour is taking real action to revitalise our community and economy. Here’s how:
A Year of Visible Progress
Bolton residents can now see and feel the benefits of regeneration, with major projects completed and exciting plans for 2025 already underway. Some of this year’s highlights include:
- Moor Lane Development: The first residents have moved into the 214-home Neighbourhood Moor Lane, a partnership between Bolton Council, Bolton at Home, and Step Places. Alongside Deansgate Gardens, these developments will bring over 5,000 new residents to the town centre, creating vibrant urban neighbourhoods and supporting local businesses.
- Bolton Market Food Hall: Part of a £5.9m transformation, the new food hall offers cuisine from around the world and fresh, locally sourced produce. It’s already become a hit with residents and visitors alike, boosting the local economy.
- Bolton Central Library Renovation: A £4.43m renovation has delivered an expanded children’s area, improved social spaces, digital facilities, and the new Café Crescent, providing a welcoming hub for the community.
- Elizabeth Park: Bolton’s first new green space in over a century opened in the town centre, winning “Project of the Year” at the Civil Engineering Contractors Association awards.
Looking Ahead to 2025
Bolton Labour is committed to maintaining this momentum into 2025, with major projects planned, including:
- Church Wharf Development: A £75m project delivering a hotel and 400 new homes, kickstarting further investment in the area.
- Crompton Place Redevelopment: Demolition begins in 2025, making way for a flagship project to transform the heart of the town centre into a modern, multi-use space.
- Wellsprings Innovation Hub: Backed by £6.9m from the Towns Fund, this creative and tech-focused space will open in early 2025, providing opportunities for entrepreneurs and start-ups.
Labour’s ambitious plans are creating a Bolton that’s more than just buildings; it’s about building a community with vibrant public spaces, thriving businesses, and opportunities for everyone.
The Labour Difference
For 14 years, Conservative governments cut funding to councils, leaving towns like Bolton to struggle. Under Labour’s leadership, we’re reversing the damage. This year, thanks to Labour’s commitment to regeneration, Bolton was named Greater Manchester’s Town of Culture, and events like the Bolton Food and Drink Festival have drawn national attention.
While Reform shouts about “easy solutions” that would devastate local services, Labour is getting on with the hard work of delivering real results.
Cllr Nick Peel, Leader of Bolton Council, said:
“This year has shown what Labour leadership can achieve. Regeneration is breathing new life into our town, creating homes, jobs, and opportunities for all. With a Labour government supporting us, we’re delivering progress, not promises.”
Cllr Akhtar Zaman, Deputy Leader, added:
“2024 was the year residents could truly feel the benefits of regeneration. As we head into 2025, we’re building on this success with even more exciting plans to come. This is Labour delivering for Bolton.”
Building a Better Bolton
Bolton Labour is proud to lead the charge in transforming our borough. From the new homes at Moor Lane to the Food Hall and innovation hubs, these projects demonstrate what can be achieved when local and national governments work together.
