Bolton Labour Announces New Cabinet for 2025: Focused Leadership to Deliver Real Change
The Labour-led Bolton Council has unveiled its new Cabinet for 2025, following a significant reshuffle designed to streamline responsibilities and address key priorities for the borough. The changes, announced by Council Leader Cllr Nick Peel, aim to ensure effective leadership in tackling critical issues such as health, social care, regeneration, and housing.
What’s New in the Cabinet?
The reshuffle reflects both evolving challenges and opportunities. The number of Cabinet members remains at nine, but responsibilities have been restructured to provide sharper focus on delivering Bolton Labour’s vision for the borough:
- Health and Wellbeing Takes Centre Stage: A new role dedicated to Health and Wellbeing has been created, with Cllr Jackie Schofield appointed to the position. Drawing on her extensive professional experience, Cllr Schofield will oversee Public Health, Mental Health, and the critical integration of health and social care.
- Housing Prioritised Under Cllr Sean Fielding: Cllr Fielding’s portfolio now focuses on Adult Social Care and Housing, addressing issues like homelessness, social housing, and private sector partnerships.
- Regeneration Directly Under Leadership: Cllr Nick Peel’s own portfolio now includes town centre regeneration, signalling its importance as a cornerstone of Labour’s vision for a thriving Bolton.
- Land, Property, and Planning with Deputy Leader: Cllr Akhtar Zaman will oversee key areas like strategic housing, land allocations, and local planning policy, further strengthening Labour’s efforts to revitalise communities.
Dedicated Leadership to Meet Bolton’s Needs
Cllr Peel explained the reasons behind the reshuffle:
“This reshuffle was triggered by personal circumstances but also reflects the need for a sharper focus on critical areas. Health and social care integration is a massive issue for Bolton, and I’m delighted to bring Cllr Jackie Schofield into Cabinet to lead on this important work.”
Cllr Schofield expressed her enthusiasm for the new role:
“It’s an honour to take on this portfolio. Health and social care integration is vital to improving outcomes for Bolton residents, and I look forward to building on the progress we’ve already made.”
The reshuffle also consolidates other key areas, such as Highways, Transport, and Regulatory Services, now under Cllr Hamid Khurram, and Climate Change and Environmental Services, led by Cllr Richard Silvester.
A Council That Delivers for Bolton
The Labour-led council is committed to making 2025 a year of delivery for Bolton’s residents, ensuring strong partnerships with the new Labour government and local organisations.
Cllr Peel emphasised the importance of a united team:
“I’m proud to lead a Cabinet of dedicated individuals who are passionate about delivering real change. Together, we’ll tackle the challenges and seize the opportunities ahead to make Bolton a borough we can all be proud of.”
