🌿 Shaping the Future of Bolton’s Natural Environment 🌿

At Bolton Labour, we’re proud to champion policies that protect and enhance the natural beauty of our borough and Greater Manchester. The Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) consultation, led by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), is a key opportunity to shape how we preserve and enhance our local environment for future generations.

What is the Local Nature Recovery Strategy?

The LNRS is a government-mandated initiative designed to help communities and authorities work together to restore and enhance natural spaces. It focuses on reversing the decline in biodiversity, improving habitats, and ensuring that nature can thrive in both rural and urban settings. This strategy will directly impact Bolton’s green spaces, wildlife, and resilience to climate change.

Why Does It Matter for Bolton?

Bolton is home to beautiful parks, reservoirs, and green spaces that are cherished by residents. However, years of underinvestment and climate change pressures have taken their toll. The LNRS provides a framework to:

  • Protect wildlife and biodiversity: Ensure that habitats are preserved and restored, so future generations can enjoy the wildlife that makes Bolton special.
  • Enhance public spaces: Make local parks and nature reserves more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
  • Tackle climate change: Create natural solutions to reduce flooding, improve air quality, and make our town more resilient to extreme weather.
  • Promote mental well-being: Green spaces aren’t just about the environment—they’re crucial for mental health and community cohesion.

What Can You Do?

The LNRS consultation is open until 19th January 2024, and it’s your chance to have your say on the future of Bolton’s natural spaces. Whether you’re passionate about protecting wildlife, improving access to green spaces, or addressing climate change, your voice matters.

But we know there’s more to do. The LNRS consultation is an important part of shaping our vision for the future, and we encourage everyone to get involved. Together, we can ensure that Bolton thrives not just for today, but for generations to come.
